Interesting, but how do we handle independent candidates?
One other observation is that rather than viewing the country as a whole, each of the 12 regions of the UK are treated separately, thereby ensuring that we do not get a Sinn Fein MP representing Crewe.
Hi Daniel. A very interesting idea worthy of a prize in a different competition, but I prefer the Electoral Reform Society's suggested system to replace FPTP: single transferable vote. Much simpler with, dare I say it, much the same result. Whaddaya think?
Really interesting and thought provoking. I've shared on my (relatively meagre) twitter.
I wanted to add a comment about why I subscribed. I'm a tribune subscriber, and one of my pet peeves is that journalism isn't based enough in data and fact, I think your pieces there are a strong corrective to that. I'm trying to learn data skill myself so any idiots guide you could put in to your posts of how you got there (or any tips for newbies) would be much appreciated!
I know it's the last post but I couldn't agree more on the new town at Retford - although as a rail industry employee I suspect the ECML would need a capacity upgrade. Lots of people in northern/ north east Lincolnshire look to Sheffield as their nearest big city and we don't really take advantage of it.
My worry would be not the system itself, but explaining it to people. When we voted in 2011 for an alternative to FPTP, the Tories put out adverts that showed people being utterly baffled, scratching their heads and muttering all sorts of irrelevant nonsense about it being SOOOOO complicated. Of course, it was no more complicated than saying - this is my favourite, and this my second favourite. The dominant party/ies would no doubt come up with some similar rubbish if we ever got the chance to choose again.

Thanks for this David - really kind words.
This is a very interesting proposition Daniel!
